As an art director at our agency, you will be a part of an award-winning creative team that does great work, has fun, and enjoys free snacks. You will play an important role that involves regular client interaction, management of your projects, and the occasional Friday afternoon dart game. This is a vital position that requires strong leadership and interpersonal skills, as well as a solid background in art direction and production. Being familiar with working on websites and designing interactive elements is also desired.

You will be asked to understand our agency philosophy (which is not that complicated), get to know our workflow system, collaborate with different writers, learn about our other capabilities and have the ability to speak intelligently to clients about what makes us different. Your primary responsibilities will be handling the day-to-day art direction needs of your clients and projects. Your role will encompass oversight of jobs and ensuring that deadlines, budgets and creative standards are met. You will work on a wide array of projects, including print, digital, broadcast, collateral, B2B, B2C, and more. Some projects will require going on a shoot, or travelling to a focus group. We can’t promise it will be a warm and sunny place, but you can bet there will be M&Ms.

Project Manager

Garrison Hughes is looking for an experienced Project Manager to help guide the workflow for our growing list of initiatives. You’ll be an integral part of a team of seasoned, award-winning pros who know how to get things done, and who have fun doing it. In this role you won’t be a hand-holder. You’ll be a conductor, coordinating internal and external resources and leading cross-functional teams to pilot projects smoothly through the agency, from inception to completion. You will actively manage all day-to-day activity for assigned clients including:

  • Establishing and managing project scopes
  • Providing detailed input to teams and setting them up for success
  • Developing project plans and managing the process to deliver on time
  • Preparing project estimates and monitoring progress and scope to keep projects within budget
  • Ensuring a mutually beneficial ROI for agency and client on all projects and accounts
  • Utilizing agency project management tools to maximize efficiency
  • Acting as the day-to-day interface with the client
  • Functioning as the communications hub within the agency, collaborating daily with media, creative, social, and interactive teams

Besides requiring an enthusiastic person who’s highly collaborative with great communication and organizational skills, we also want a Project Manager with 5+ years of related advertising/marketing experience (agency preferred), with high digital fluency, the ability to sweat the details without losing sight of the bigger picture, and a willingness to throw darts at happy hour every now and then.

Senior Digital Designer

This position is on the Garrison Hughes Design team, which is located in our offices on the 57th floor of the U.S. Steel Building. It is a unique role within our agency that encompasses conceptual design, strategic thinking, digital programming and managerial expertise. As Senior Digital Designer, you would be responsible for overseeing design for UPMC corporate websites, intranet, portals, interactive initiatives and other online and distributed digital projects. You will be asked to lend your expertise and guidance on numerous digital marketing projects, while maintaining the UPMC brand in support of UPMC's mission and vision. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with and offering design guidance to UPMC’s social media team. In addition, you would provide ongoing website design analysis, maintenance and development to continually monitor and improve website design, functionality and current industry standards. You will maintain UPMC’s design pattern library that defines all of the elements that make up UPMC’s web pages, including banners, rotators, call outs, call to action, link styles, etc. work closely with Medical Media and the video team to ensure that the UPMC brand and mission are consistent across digital mediums. You will also be responsible for collaborating with the Garrison Hughes Design team and offering your digital guidance to traditional design.

You will also play a vital role in helping to lead and manage campaigns and other digital initiatives; seek out ways to enhance the overall user experience; and develop concepts that will increase engagement and encourage repeat visits to UPMC’s digital channels.

Educational/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in web/digital design, computer science, marketing, communication, or related discipline from an accredited college or equivalent field experience.
  • An exceptional understanding of fundamental website usability best practices, standards, compliant design, cross browser compatibility and user interface design.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on web design experience with proven understanding of interface design principles.
  • Solid understanding of typography, color, composition, hierarchy and user interface trends.
  • Knowledge of current trends in website development and the tools necessary to build online and interactive projects
  • Strong knowledge of HTML,CSS, JavaScript Programming (MySQL,PHP,SQL, and .NET experience a plus), InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, WordPress and MS Office
