Communications Manager

Garrison Hughes is looking for a full time Communications Manager to work in the USX location. This position supports our client, UPMC, on their Heart and Vascular Institute as well as the Cancer Center. As a Communications Manager, you will have the opportunity to, under direction, strategize, develop and implement communication projects to educate and inform patients and visitors to UPMC. You will also direct the communication strategies of internal and external audiences in assigned areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as a communications counselor (consultant) to internal UPMC clients.
  • Manage the research, writing, design and production of any materials.
  • Implement communication plans for programs by managing multi-faceted projects.
  • Prepare strategies to achieve communication goals.
  • Develop methods to evaluate communications projects based on effectiveness and cost/benefits, and document the results.
  • Monitor project budgets; handle approvals and other client relations and take responsibility for accuracy and effectiveness of information communicated.
  • Coordinates with pertinent scientific and professional organizations to promote assigned areas.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in other departments.
  • Independently advise internal clients.

Education/Knowledge requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related field required.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Marketing or Communications required.
  • Experience in providing clients with strategic marketing counsel required.
  • Agency experience a plus.
  • Experience in an academic medical center, hospital or health care industry is preferred.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to translate scientific/medical information to a lay person’s understanding required.

Communications Specialist II

Garrison Hughes is looking for a professional who will operate under the direction of a Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications. As a Communications Specialist II, you will handle various projects to provide communications to internal and external audiences in support of the client’s mission. This includes managing communications projects of varying levels of complexity and sophistication. You will also serve as a liaison to staff of clinical and non-clinical programs. In addition, you will refine and maintain the processes used by the department and external vendors. Other duties may be required as assigned.

An ideal candidate will be able to multitask and prioritize projects appropriately, as well as demonstrate service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers.

Educational/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, health sciences, or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a corporate communications position or related field such as marketing, journalism, communications, or health sciences.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, and be well organized.
  • Research/interviewing experience preferred.

Senior Designer

This position is contracted for the UPMC Health Plan design team, which is located in the USX Tower. It is a unique role that encompasses conceptual design, strategic thinking, digital programming and production expertise. In this position you will be asked to lend your expertise and guidance on numerous print, collateral, and digital marketing projects, while maintaining the UPMC brand in support of UPMC Health Plan’s mission and vision. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with – and offering design to – multiple internal teams. You will also play a vital role in helping to lead and manage campaigns and other digital initiatives; seek out ways to enhance the overall user experience; and develop concepts that will increase engagement.

Educational/Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in traditional/digital design, computer science, marketing, communication, or related discipline from an accredited college or equivalent field experience
  • An exceptional understanding of fundamental website usability best practices, standards, compliant design, cross browser compatibility and user interface design

Accountant

Garrison Hughes is looking for a full time Accountant. As an Accountant, you will have the opportunity to assist the Controller with various duties including billing throughout the month, while tracking related expense accruals as necessary for individual jobs, and assisting with monthly closing process, mainly balance sheet reconciliations. In addition, there may be some Human Resources duties such as maintaining employee files and new employee onboarding.

This is a growing company and this position will grow along with it, both in volume and responsibility. This position offers an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the company’s financial accounting and reporting and is going to play an important role in solidifying the foundation of the accounting department by assisting the Controller in executing best-practice policies and procedures.

Additional responsibilities include: record daily deposits and ACH client payments, assist account managers in resolving any invoicing issues with clients, enter accounts payable invoices and import credit card transactions, ensuring proper coding to GL accounts and reduction of accruals as necessary, resolve vendor inquiries, track 1099 vendors, cut checks, process ACH payments, and monitor credit card usage, and assisting the Controller with developing and maintaining accrual process for media clients.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Very strong attention to detail is a MUST
  • Professional and responsible
  • Understanding of general ledger postings and journal entry procedures
  • Above-average Excel skills
  • Positive attitude and initiative for problem-solving
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting with 2-4 years of experience in bookkeeping or general ledger accounting OR Associates Degree in Accounting with 6+ years of experience in bookkeeping or general ledger accounting

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • 3+ years of accounts payable experience
  • 3+ years of billing experience
  • 3+ years of monthly closing experience
