Dave Hughes - Art Director
Bill Garrison - Copywriter
After more than twenty-five years of working together, Dave Hughes and Bill Garrison have shared a lot of ideas. Today they share a place in the Ad Federation's Hall of Achievement, where they were inducted in 2006. Their creative careers started a few hundred miles apart. Dave was an Art Director at Kelly Michener in Lancaster, PA, after attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Bill took a job as a copywriter at Ketchum Advertising upon graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. When Dave got tired of living among the Amish, he returned to Pittsburgh to accept a job at Ketchum Advertising where he found Bill sound asleep at his desk. A true partnership was born. They eventually became Vice Presidents and Creative Directors at a number of agencies, including Ketchum, Werner Chepelsky & Partners (now Mullen), Egan/St. James and Blattner Brunner, handling a wide range of accounts from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Their work has received numerous accolades, including recognition in Communication Arts Advertising Annual and The One Show Book. They were named Obie Award finalists for outdoor advertising, and Kelly Award finalists for creating one of the 25 best magazine campaigns in the country. They have also received more than 150 Pittsburgh Addy Awards, including three Best Of Show honors and several Regional and National Addys.
Corinne McMunn - Media Director
Corinne has more than 14 years of experience in media planning and buying, strategic thinking and brand building. Corinne has worked for Merck and Coca-Cola Enterprises, as well as MARC Advertising, where her clients included PPG Industries, Bryant Heating and Cooling, First Merit Corporation, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Carnegie Museum of Natural History. A graduate of Geneva College, Corinne has distinguished herself with a knack for getting the most out of every media dollar for her clients, and finding unique ways to reach customers – from national sales promotions to local, non-traditional advertising. As the second person named "Corinne" in our office, she will also respond to "Corinne II", "CK" or "the other Corinne."
Mike Giunta - Copywriter
Mike is our resident funeral home expert (he grew up living above one). But he's anything but morbid. He has penned award-winning, entertaining, and insightful copy for a variety of clients including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Musselman's Applesauce, Consol Energy, and many others. Before coming here, Mike's career took him from the world of finance at Federated Investors, to the world of advertising at Blattner Brunner. His work has been featured in AdWeek, Ad Age and Creativity Magazine, and has garnered numerous Addy Awards at the local, regional and national levels. He also received back-to-back Best of Show honors in the Lamar Outdoor advertising contest. He's written for a local satirical news website, and one of his TV commercials was even featured in a Swedish documentary (not bad for an Italian). Mike is a member of the Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Board of Directors, and was named one of the city's rising stars in Pittsburgh Magazine's "40 Under 40". And with a degree in accounting from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, he is one of the few writers who can also do your taxes.
Ben Pritchard - Interactive Technology Director
Dave Popelka - Director of Strategy and Business Development
Dave has more than 20 years of experience finding meaningful and differentiating brand strategies for a variety of clients including Johnson & Johnson, PNC, Harry & David, First Commonwealth Bank, GNC, True Value, Sheetz Convenience Stores and more. He’s worked for a number of nationally recognized agencies such as Mullen, Ketchum and Marc USA. Dave is also a skilled meeting facilitator and presenter who works with clients in both the B2B and consumer spaces, helping them uncover insights into their brands that leads to more targeted communications. Few people know that Dave also dabbled in stand-up comedy in the past, opening up for the likes of Chris Rock and Lewis Black. And after hearing some of his jokes, you will know why he stayed in advertising.
Chris Konopack - Senior Graphic Designer
After receiving his BS in Graphic Design from La Roche College, Chris created compelling designs for a variety of companies and organizations, including the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Eagle Outfitters and A to Z Communications. Chris works on a wide range of UPMC projects, from the audited financial statements to publications for UPMC CancerCenter. Chris was once ranked in the top 10 in the Central New Jersey district of the Eastern Surfing Association, and is still on the lookout for the perfect wave on one of Pittsburgh's rivers.
Corinne Stenander - Art Director
Corinne is adept at bringing concepts to life in a variety of mediums, from print ads, direct mail, outdoor boards and collateral materials, to banners, event signage, and trade show materials. She honed her meticulous design skills at The St. George Group and Blattner Brunner before joining Garrison Hughes. Corinne has developed campaigns for clients such as Carnegie Mellon University, The Frick Art Museum, Daily's Juice Products, 84 Lumber Company, National City Bank, Armada Funds, and others. Originally from Jamestown NY, Corinne moved south to Pittsburgh in search of warmer weather.
Kim Tarasi - Creative Services Manager
Kim has more than 30 years of agency experience in account management, project management, and all the other skills that go into taking a creative idea from the concept phase and efficiently herding it to the final audience. So it’s no surprise that she owns a horse and is an avid rider. At previous agencies, MARC USA, St. George Group, Market Place Print, and Brunner, Kim has worked on well-known brands including Bob Evans, Arby’s, Transitions Lenses, True Value, The Home Depot, Cub Cadet, Wesbanco, and Field & Stream. Responsible for the day-to-day work flow, scheduling, and estimating of creative and digital services, Kim is a logistical expert, part psychologist and part bulldog.
Keri Allison - Art Director
Keri's design skills have helped to create print ads, brochures, outdoor advertising and logos that stand out from the crowd for various clients over her 10-year career. Before joining Garrison Hughes, Keri worked for several local agencies including Blattner Brunner, Smith Brothers and Brady Communications on brands such as Del Monte, Point Park University, The Pittsburgh Opera and King's Restaurants. The clients who rely on her expertise now include PNC, PPG, Heinz History Center and UPMC. A graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and La Roche College, Keri is also a skilled and award-winning illustrator. So if you see her doodling during a meeting, she may actually be working.
Dan Lyons - Manager, Brand Central Design
Dan is a highly-experienced art director who has worked on numerous national and regional clients throughout his career, including Digital Equipment Corporation, PNC Bank, Zippo Manufacturing Company, Dick's Sporting Goods, Cub Cadet, and more. Today, Dan manages Brand Central Design and oversees the creation, production and delivery of hundreds of customized ads for UPMC and its growing hospital network. His ability to work quickly and efficiently has enabled us to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards. Prior to joining us, Dan honed his skills at various agencies such as Ketchum and Blattner Brunner, and ran his own shop for several years. Dan is so focused on creating ads that he claims to now dream in CMYK.
Debbie Regan - Art Director
Debbie is a big picture thinker with an eye for the details. She has put her meticulous design skills and strategic leadership into practice developing creative solutions for a wide range of clients including LaRosa’s Pizzeria, Alcoa, Cub Cadet, WesBanco, Bob Evans, Philips Respironics, GlaxoSmithKline and Giant Eagle. Throughout her career at agencies including Brunner, St. George Group and The Kaiser Group, she has managed complex projects from start to finish while always keeping her clients’ goals in sight. And although she has mastered just about every type of art and design technique you could think of, she claims to have no control over her hair.
Matt Trout - Senior Interactive Designer/Developer
Chris Spain - Art Director
Chris is one of those rare breeds in advertising that possesses unparalleled technical design skills, along with an ability to create visually dynamic concepts. He works closely with our GH Design team in the U.S. Steel building to manage a comprehensive brand identity system that we built specifically for UPMC. The system requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational expertise and a high tolerance for “rush” jobs. Prior to joining Garrison Hughes, Chris worked for many years as a graphic designer/art director at Brunner crafting interactive and print campaigns, collateral, direct mail, logos, websites, and social media campaigns. He incorporates his knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere and HTML to ensure top-quality results. Chris has worked on a wide range of local, national and international clients including Cub Cadet, Zippo, PPG, Golf Pride, Philips Respironics and GlaxoSmithKline. Some people find it hard to believe, but he doesn’t speak a lick of Spanish.
Inbal Blumenfeld - Senior Graphic Designer
Born and raised in Israel, Inbal served as a photographer in the Israeli Army -(which trained her well for future client skirmishes.) Upon her arrival in the United States, her artistic side bloomed at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, where she received an Honorary Summa Cum Laude Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree. She then pursued her career in earnest at some of the Big Apple's top design shops, including the prestigious Pentagram Design, where she worked on brands including Liz Claiborne and the New York Jets. Inbal's experience now helps our clients with everything from annual reports to corporate identity materials to executive presentations. And she keeps her camera close by, just in case.
Joe Bukovac - Senior Graphic Designer
Joe has 15 years of design experience working for both ad agencies and clients. Joe's previous clients include Adelphia Cable, Black Family Channel, Waynesburg College, PA Career Link, Giant Eagle and the Pittsburgh Opera. He is responsible for all aspects of design and production for UPMC's annual reports, brochures, posters, signage, promotional items, executive presentations and newsletters. When not sitting at his desk making compelling designs, Joe can usually be found sitting on his mountain bike.
Jenn Reed - Account Director
Jenn has more than 15 years of experience developing integrated, results-driven marketing programs for a diverse group of retail, consumer goods and B2B clients. Jenn has worked for MARC Advertising, Ketchum Advertising, and Think Inc. Communications. Her client work includes Rite Aid, GENCO Third Party Logistics, True Value Hardware, Eat'n Park Restaurants, HM Insurance Group (a division of Highmark), California Closet Company, Zippo Lighters, Mohawk Flooring, and more. Through efficient project management and high level strategic thinking, Jenn finds the unique point of difference for each client and the sweet spot for each consumer. With her insight, she provides strategic direction that helps lead the creative team to the ideas that get results. She also kicks us under the table if we say something wrong during a meeting.
Larry Hruska - Senior Graphic Designer
Larry holds a BFA/Applied Media Arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in graphic design. He previously worked as a designer at Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit before joining UPMC's design group. Larry is one of our long-form design specialists, focusing on annual reports and capabilities brochures. In addition to being an accomplished amateur photographer, Larry prides himself on having an encyclopedic knowledge of useless information about 70s and 80s TV shows.
Tia Letras - Art Director
Tia's design skills have gotten the attention of clients, their customers and her peers. Her work has helped the efforts of The National Gallery of Art, Abbott Laboratories, American University, and Georgetown University. Previously employed by AOL and RTC Relationship Marketing, Tia has also won numerous creative awards and recognitions, including the Judge's Choice Award from the Art Directors Club of Washington, D.C., as well as honors from the Washington Book Publishers. Originally from Baltimore, she's still trying to find her way around Western Pennsylvania, starting with all the best Greek restaurants.
Bob Brown - Design Director
Bob has more than 30 years of experience working with both ad agencies and clients. He ran his own print production company for 20+ years before jumping over to the advertising side of the fence. This background gives Bob the ability to understand the long-term business objectives of a project, while managing the day-to-day volume of work in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Bob can be found high atop Pittsburgh in our offices on the 57th floor of the U.S. Steel Building, where he manages our Design Group located within the marketing department of UPMC. Being close to our client allows him to handle a multitude of design projects across all of UPMC's clinical marketing areas, while policing the company's complex brand standards. And considering he's 6'4" and from Pittsburgh's tough Brookline neighborhood, we usually defer to his judgment on just about everything.
Nicole Christ - Media Planner/Buyer
A graduate of Syracuse University with a double major in Biology and Advertising Management, Nicole is uniquely trained to reach people’s hearts and minds. As one of our media planners and buyers, she knows how to maximize our clients’ budgets by finding smart, innovative ways to reach their audiences. She also skillfully uses her millennial status to create and manage effective social media campaigns and targeted digital strategies. Previously at Elisco Advertising and Stern Advertising, Nicole’s clients included Trib Total media, Bedford Reinforced Plastics, Ohio Valley Hospital and McDonald’s. She was also a supervisor at the exclusive Bradford Hills Pet Hotel and can provide turndown service for our four-legged clients as added value.
Bob Lazor - Art Director
Bob has over 15 years of experience developing brand campaigns, TV commercials, web designs, print, and outdoor for clients such as Heinz, PNC Bank, Del Monte, Nestle, King’s Family Restaurants, Pittsburgh Corning, Sheetz and Rite-Aid. His work gets results for his clients and recognition from his peers, as proven by the number of local and regional ADDY awards on his shelf. Prior to joining us, Bob made hay at Brunner, MARC advertising and Smith Brothers. He also graduated from the Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a perfect attendance record, which he continued at Garrison Hughes until we told him we don’t give bonuses for that.
Shannon West - Account Coordinator/Media Buyer
Before Shannon brought her eye for detail and penchant for buying just the right media to Garrison Hughes, she worked for a variety of companies including Burns & Scalo, Grubb & Ellis, and Development Dimensions International. A Robert Morris University graduate, Shannon got her first taste of the media world while working as an intern for WTAE-TV. She also has her Pennsylvania Real Estate License. So in addition to placing ads just where our clients need them, she could probably place you in a nice house, too.
Daniel Yazvac - Senior Graphic Designer
Dan's eye for detail and skill for photo retouching has garnered numerous awards, grateful clients and amazed co-workers. He first honed his talents at Edinboro University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Communications Graphics, Certified in Color Theory (it's technical). He also has the title of Pittsburgh's first "electronic photo retoucher." Before becoming the Chief Production Artist at UPMC's design group, Dan worked at Filmet Color Laboratories, Gamma Sports, D.A.Y.Graphics and Brady Communications. And few people know that as a former DJ on his campus radio station, his audio expertise rivals his visual acumen.
Vince Robleto - Senior Copywriter
Vince’s career started as a freelancer, but his way with words quickly caught the eye of local agencies including Brunner and Mullen. While at these agencies, Vince wrote award-winning copy for a variety of clients including Cub Cadet, Bob Evans, Lucky Leaf, YellaWood, Tums, Highmark, First Commonwealth Bank, American Diabetes Association and Foodland. With nearly a decade of experience, his work has garnered a number of awards, including a PRSA Best in Show, several Pittsburgh ADDYs and a Judge’s Award of Excellence. Vince has also had the opportunity to present and sell ideas to the Pentagon. He’d tell you about it, but then he’d have to kill you.
Tony Shuckhart - Senior Graphic Designer
Tony has more than 25 years of experience as an art director on both the agency and client side. During his time at MARC Advertising, Ketchum Advertising, and Blattner Brunner, he handled responsibilities for Mellon Bank, Tru-Value, Mine Safety Appliances, PPG, Westinghouse and more. He was also Associate Creative Director at EDMC, managing all marketing support services for its various campuses across the country. Today, he puts his masterful design skills to work for numerous UPMC lines of business. Tony also has a meticulous eye for detail and if you don't believe us, ask him to show you a picture of the 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback that he keeps in mint condition in his squeaky clean garage.
Diane Novosel - Brand Strategist
Diane Novosel is a key member of our strategy and research team. She possesses more than 14 years of strategic planning and research experience across a broad range of disciplines, including brand architecture development, customer segmentation, tracking, and qualitative and quantitative market studies. On the client side, Diane has held senior-level consumer insight positions at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, Del Monte Foods, Giant Eagle Stores and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance. She also worked for Mullen Advertising, where she developed strategic plans for clients such as First Commonwealth Bank, The American Diabetes Association, Lumber Liquidators, and PPG. Always seeking to make an impact, she also doubled the number of John Carroll University graduates we have in the office.
Scott Rudy - Senior Graphic Designer
Although he is a native of the Mon Valley with a history of coal miners and steel workers in his family, Scott decided that the pressure of a tight deadline was about as much as he wanted to sweat. Scott's fast, efficient and meticulous design work has been seen in everything from publications such as In Pittsburgh Newsweekly, to his work at Digital Color Imaging as a typesetter and designer. He now handles a variety of UPMC projects from small brochures to large banners. He's an Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduate, and when he isn't tweaking his designs, Scott can be found tinkering on his Jeep or some other project in his mad scientist garage.
