People who need people
Dave Hughes - Art Director
Bill Garrison - Copywriter
After more than twenty-five years of working together, Dave Hughes and Bill Garrison have shared a lot of ideas. Today they share a place in the Ad Federation's Hall of Achievement, where they were inducted in 2006. Their creative careers started a few hundred miles apart. Dave was an Art Director at Kelly Michener in Lancaster, PA, after attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Bill took a job as a copywriter at Ketchum Advertising upon graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. When Dave got tired of living among the Amish, he returned to Pittsburgh to accept a job at Ketchum Advertising where he found Bill sound asleep at his desk. A true partnership was born. They eventually became Vice Presidents and Creative Directors at a number of agencies, including Ketchum, Werner Chepelsky & Partners (now Mullen), Egan/St. James and Blattner Brunner, handling a wide range of accounts from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Their work has received numerous accolades, including recognition in Communication Arts Advertising Annual and The One Show Book. They were named Obie Award finalists for outdoor advertising, and Kelly Award finalists for creating one of the 25 best magazine campaigns in the country. They have also received more than 150 Pittsburgh Addy Awards, including three Best Of Show honors and several Regional and National Addys.
Corinne McMunn - Media Director

Corinne has worked for Merck and Coca-Cola Enterprises, as well as MARC Advertising, where her clients included PPG Industries, Bryant Heating and Cooling, First Merit Corporation, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Carnegie Museum of Natural History. A graduate of Geneva College, Corinne has distinguished herself with a knack for getting the most out of every media dollar for her clients, and finding unique ways to reach customers – from national sales promotions to local, non-traditional advertising. As the second person named "Corinne" in our office, she will also respond to "Corinne II", "CK" or "the other Corinne."
Mike Giunta - SVP, Copywriter
Mike is our resident funeral home expert (he grew up living above one). But he's anything but morbid. He has penned award-winning, entertaining, and insightful copy for a variety of clients including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Musselman's Applesauce, Consol Energy, and many others. Before coming here, Mike's career took him from the world of finance at Federated Investors, to the world of advertising at Blattner Brunner. His work has been featured in AdWeek, Ad Age and Creativity Magazine, and has garnered numerous Addy Awards at the local, regional and national levels. He also received back-to-back Best of Show honors in the Lamar Outdoor advertising contest. He's written for a local satirical news website, and one of his TV commercials was even featured in a Swedish documentary (not bad for an Italian). Mike is a member of the Pittsburgh Advertising Federation Board of Directors, and was named one of the city's rising stars in Pittsburgh Magazine's "40 Under 40". And with a degree in accounting from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, he is one of the few writers who can also do your taxes.

Stacy began her career as a media planner where she successfully planned and executed multimillion dollar campaigns for clients, including UPMC Health Plan, across all media types by negotiating prime rates and placements to meet her clients’ strategic goals. After honing the skill of crafting strategic marketing and media plans, she joined our strategy and research team. She leads brand planning processes, authors creative briefs and has developed a unique way of bringing target audiences to life. Prior to joining Garrison Hughes, Stacy worked at Gatesman Agency. Her strategic abilities are second only to her knowledge of microbreweries that she has toured – and sampled from – with multiple customer segments.

Over the last two decades, Julie climbed the paper’s ranks from designer to production director. Along the way, she honed both print and digital design skills while making sure to keep things right on schedule – apparently papers have tight deadlines. But why sacrifice creativity for workflow when you don’t have to? Julie’s been able to have her creativity and get things done on time and on budget, too. A 1997 grad of Ohio University, Julie holds a BS in Visual Communication and Photo Illustration as well as a non-major specialization in Spanish. Olé!
Mike D'Angelo - Senior Digital Designer
From death care to health care, Mike cares about quality design. Before making his way to Garrison Hughes, Mike’s tenure at Matthews International, a leader in bronze caskets and vaults, taught him that User Interfaces and dynamic marketing campaigns count at every stage of life. Less dark were Mike’s design travels that led him to EDMC Online Higher Education, SimCloud Corporation and Commonwealth Press – where he worked on all-things design for everything from social media campaigns and websites to print marketing and t-shirts. A graduate of Pittsburgh Technical College with an AS in Multimedia Technologies, Mike also has an eye for photography and passion for videography.

Matt Trout - Lead Developer/Platform Engineer
Duncan Falk - Senior Interactive Developer
Chris Spain - Art Director
Chris is one of those rare breeds in advertising that possesses unparalleled technical design skills, along with an ability to create visually dynamic concepts. He works closely with our GH Design team in the U.S. Steel building to manage a comprehensive brand identity system that we built specifically for UPMC. The system requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational expertise and a high tolerance for “rush” jobs. Prior to joining Garrison Hughes, Chris worked for many years as a graphic designer/art director at Brunner crafting interactive and print campaigns, collateral, direct mail, logos, websites, and social media campaigns. He incorporates his knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere and HTML to ensure top-quality results. Chris has worked on a wide range of local, national and international clients including Cub Cadet, Zippo, PPG, Golf Pride, Philips Respironics and GlaxoSmithKline. Some people find it hard to believe, but he doesn’t speak a lick of Spanish.
Michelle Bauer - Junior Art Director
A graduate of La Roche College, Michelle’s an all-around go getter and lifesaver. She has mad skills when it comes to animation, website and application design, and creating images for social posts, infographics and illustrations. Proficient in After Effect animation, she also knows her way around a camera. In her spare time, Michelle is an avid medieval re-enactor – we couldn’t have made that up if we tried. It means she practices the scribal arts, including wood burning, archery and commedia dell’arte (an old-century style of comedy). Your hobbies suddenly sound very unoriginal, huh?
Inbal Blumenfeld - Senior Graphic Designer
Born and raised in Israel, Inbal served as a photographer in the Israeli Army -(which trained her well for future client skirmishes.) Upon her arrival in the United States, her artistic side bloomed at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, where she received an Honorary Summa Cum Laude Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree. She then pursued her career in earnest at some of the Big Apple's top design shops, including the prestigious Pentagram Design, where she worked on brands including Liz Claiborne and the New York Jets. Inbal's experience now helps our clients with everything from annual reports to corporate identity materials to executive presentations. And she keeps her camera close by, just in case.
Joe Bukovac - Senior Graphic Designer
Joe has 15 years of design experience working for both ad agencies and clients. Joe's previous clients include Adelphia Cable, Black Family Channel, Waynesburg College, PA Career Link, Giant Eagle and the Pittsburgh Opera. He is responsible for all aspects of design and production for UPMC's annual reports, brochures, posters, signage, promotional items, executive presentations and newsletters. When not sitting at his desk making compelling designs, Joe can usually be found sitting on his mountain bike.

Her work has helped the efforts of The National Gallery of Art, Abbott Laboratories, American University, and Georgetown University. Previously employed by AOL and RTC Relationship Marketing, Tia has also won numerous creative awards and recognitions, including the Judge's Choice Award from the Art Directors Club of Washington, D.C., as well as honors from the Washington Book Publishers. Originally from Baltimore, she's still trying to find her way around Western Pennsylvania, starting with all the best Greek restaurants.
Bob Brown - VP, Design Director
Bob has more than 30 years of experience working with both ad agencies and clients. He ran his own print production company for 20+ years before jumping over to the advertising side of the fence. This background gives Bob the ability to understand the long-term business objectives of a project, while managing the day-to-day volume of work in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Bob can be found high atop Pittsburgh in our offices on the 57th floor of the U.S. Steel Building, where he manages our Design Group located within the marketing department of UPMC. Being close to our client allows him to handle a multitude of design projects across all of UPMC's clinical marketing areas, while policing the company's complex brand standards. And considering he's 6'4" and from Pittsburgh's tough Brookline neighborhood, we usually defer to his judgment on just about everything.
Alison Kretschman - Digital Media Supervisor
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with planning, buying and strategy experience, Alison has done and seen it all when it comes the world of media. And she’s honed her skills locally at places like Mullen and Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as internationally as far away as Sydney, Australia at the University of New South Wales during an advertising internship. Daniel Yazvac - Senior Graphic Designer
Dan's eye for detail and skill for photo retouching has garnered numerous awards, grateful clients and amazed co-workers. He first honed his talents at Edinboro University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Communications Graphics, Certified in Color Theory (it's technical). He also has the title of Pittsburgh's first "electronic photo retoucher." Before becoming the Chief Production Artist at UPMC's design group, Dan worked at Filmet Color Laboratories, Gamma Sports, D.A.Y.Graphics and Brady Communications. And few people know that as a former DJ on his campus radio station, his audio expertise rivals his visual acumen.
Carlo Leo - Senior Digital Designer
Carlo says he’s passionate about clean, responsive web design so who are we to argue? Since graduating with a BS in Communications Media from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he’s had stints with the Pittsburgh City Paper and Steel City Media doing website redesigns that have increased both traffic and ad revenue. He’s proficient with all the right initials: HTML/CSS, SEO/SEM, UI/UX, and he’s good with non-acronym things, too. Carlo has the skills, software know-how and that all-important ability to make things look good while they do what they were built to do. Outside of work, you’ll probably find Carlo skateboarding at Bellevue PA Skate Plaza – hopefully wearing a helmet.
Rick Sciullo - Senior Graphic Designer
Twenty years is a lot of experience, so it’s safe to say that Rick knows what he’s doing when it comes to print and digital design. Using the tools and technology of the trade, Rick creates email blasts, social graphics, flip books, banners and infographics that create impressive impressions. He’s also well-versed in production and partnering with programmers to develop websites. Since graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Rick has worked in a freelance capacity with clients including Direct Energy, Alpha Graphics, and Union Electric and Steel. He’s also held posts with Quest Fore and Federated Investors. An outdoorsy fellow who loves a good craft IPA, Rick believes people who don’t use turn signals should be charged as felons.

While at these agencies, Vince wrote award-winning copy for a variety of clients including Cub Cadet, Bob Evans, Lucky Leaf, YellaWood, Tums, Highmark, First Commonwealth Bank, American Diabetes Association and Foodland. With nearly a decade of experience, his work has garnered a number of awards, including a PRSA Best in Show, several Pittsburgh ADDYs and a Judge’s Award of Excellence. Vince has also had the opportunity to present and sell ideas to the Pentagon. He’d tell you about it, but then he’d have to kill you.
Beth Beck - Senior Copywriter
Once upon a time Beth passed a note in 9th grade that made Mr. Tupta, who barely had a sense of humor, laugh out loud. Though it was math class, and she got a C, Beth learned a valuable lesson: Words have power. A graduate of Carlow University, which isn’t the same thing as Chatham University, Beth never got an MFA because she’s not a showoff. Over the last several decades, she has worked at places like Federated Investors, Elias-Savion Advertising and The Skin Center Medical Spa, and freelanced at places like GNC, DICK’s Sporting Goods, Bruster’s Ice-Cream and countless others that you’ve never heard of. Beth hasn’t won any awards for her writing that she can recall – then again, she’s never submitted any of her work either. Don’t judge Beth for the awards she hasn’t won, celebrate her for giving others the opportunity to win. Beth is also writing a book in her spare time, but so is every writer on the planet.
Tony Shuckhart - Senior Graphic Designer
Tony has more than 25 years of experience as an art director on both the agency and client side. During his time at MARC Advertising, Ketchum Advertising, and Blattner Brunner, he handled responsibilities for Mellon Bank, Tru-Value, Mine Safety Appliances, PPG, Westinghouse and more. He was also Associate Creative Director at EDMC, managing all marketing support services for its various campuses across the country. Today, he puts his masterful design skills to work for numerous UPMC lines of business. Tony also has a meticulous eye for detail and if you don't believe us, ask him to show you a picture of the 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback that he keeps in mint condition in his squeaky clean garage.

Always seeking to make an impact, she also doubled the number of John Carroll University graduates we have in the office.
Scott Rudy - Senior Graphic Designer
Although he is a native of the Mon Valley with a history of coal miners and steel workers in his family, Scott decided that the pressure of a tight deadline was about as much as he wanted to sweat. Scott's fast, efficient and meticulous design work has been seen in everything from publications such as In Pittsburgh Newsweekly, to his work at Digital Color Imaging as a typesetter and designer. He now handles a variety of UPMC projects from small brochures to large banners. He's an Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduate, and when he isn't tweaking his designs, Scott can be found tinkering on his Jeep or some other project in his mad scientist garage.
Alexa Valenta - Junior Art Director
"Alexa, design this for me." Even though she rolls her eyes when we make that Amazon joke, truth is, Alexa answers every request with utmost accuracy and reliability. As one of our most versatile designers and graphic artists, she utilizes her keen knowledge of typography, interactive design, photography, logo design and package design to elevate the quality of our clients’ projects and bring fresh ideas to the table. She graduated with high honors from Edinboro University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Media Arts. She also studied in London at the University of Westminster and her work has won several design competitions. Prior to joining Garrison Hughes, Alexa was a design intern at a popular local concert theater. Can you say, "Alexa, play Ed Sheeran."
Kathy Madigan - Controller
In an agency full of right-brained creative types, it’s important to have an analytical left-brained thinker – that’s why we welcome Kathy’s leadership in preparing financial statements, scrutinizing expenses and conducting profitability analysis. Even though she shares a name with a popular comedienne, Kathy has 32 years of experience and countless spreadsheets to prove that she’s serious about numbers. Kathy holds an MBA from Franciscan University and has held financial services positions with Assure America Corporation, Jefferson Behavioral Health System, and American Industries and Resources Corporation. When she’s not implementing better ways to account for things, fostering fiscal responsibility or forecasting, Kathy can be found gardening, golfing, relaxing at Lake Erie, or hanging out with family and friends.
